People often see the stores, the clothes, the photos, the packaging… but very few see where African Inspired actually began.
I started African Inspired started in 2018 while I was in campus. At the time, I wasn’t building a company. I was simply trying something. I loved fashion, I loved African print, and I kept thinking… why did African wear always feel like something reserved for special occasions? Why couldn’t it feel modern, effortless and something you could wear every day?
So I started.
No big office. No perfect plan. Just small steps, learning as I went, figuring things out one day at a time.Like most businesses, there were moments that looked nothing like the final vision. Long days. Slow days. Times of questioning whether people would really buy into the idea. Times of doing everything at once. Designing, creating, selling, replying to messages, packing orders and hoping people would come back.
They did.
One customer became two. Two became ten. Orders became a community.Over time, African Inspired became more than clothing. It became a space to celebrate African identity in a way that felt fresh and wearable. Pieces that feel bold but easy. Clothes that make people feel seen, confident and beautiful while carrying a piece of home with them.
Today, seeing African Inspired grow into multiple stores, shipping across countries, creating jobs and building a team of talented people still feels surreal sometimes.
And one thing we’ve never forgotten is this:
Everything we create is made here in Kenya.
Every collection carries stories. Every stitch represents people behind the scenes. Every customer who walks into our stores, places an order or wears African Inspired becomes part of this journey.
This brand was never built by one person. It was built by belief. By community. By choosing to keep showing up.
And honestly… we’re just getting started.
Thank you for being here.
Welcome to African Inspired ❤️
